Local Authors Feted at Sonora Fair by Antoinette May Area writers and their books will be showcased at a “Meet the Authors Fair” from 10 a.m. until 2, Friday (April 25) at the Sonora Main Library, 480 Greenley Rd. The Friends of the Tuolumne County Library sponsored event affords an open house format enabling the public to meet foothill authors, chat with them, hear written excerpts from their work, and possibly purchase books. The fair is free to all.
Chairman Susan Calfee promises something for everyone—fiction, nonfiction, biography, family history, children’s literature, poetry, true adventure, and self-help. She is working closely with Friends of the Library president Tom Mannix, who is “pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to support local authors, and to |
provide a venue where our local readers can connect with them.” Among the featured authors will be “Ticket Ted” Shannon, whose novel, “Cow Country Chip,” draws from a 23-year career in Calaveras County law enforcement. Expect high-speed chases, heart breaking traffic accidents, physical confrontations, and unsolved murders. Another exciting book—this one fiction—is J.F. Langton’s “River of Skulls,” the story of Emily who sails to Gold Rush California in search of her husband and ends up defending their gold claim as well as herself. In “Gumption: A Grandmother’s Story,” Constance J. Corcoran tells of high adventure in yet another era. Corcoran’s protagonist is a woman who starts out exploring the contrasts in her grandmother’s life before and after the Great Depression and ends up |
investigating the mystery of the banished father her grandmother never met. Corcoran has blended family lore, memoir and genealogical research in a narrative that should aid and inspire family historians. Local writers taking part in the event are Daniel Arnold, Janet Irene Atkinson, Sydney Avey, Carlo M. De Ferrari, Jo DeEds (aka Joanne Knowles), L. Reveal, Beth Robin De Luca, Isabelle MacLean Drown, Doris Fletcher-Mills, Doris Fletcher-Mills, Mark Steven Francis, Stephen Hayes, and Marylin H. Martin.
